Developmental Medicine Clinic

The Developmental Medicine Clinic (DMC) is located at Children's of Alabama’s Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children campus, and serves children of all ages for whom parents, health care providers, or other caregivers have identified concerns related to development, behavior, social skills, and/or learning. Our clinic is staffed by two developmental-behavioral pediatricians with expertise in conditions such as:

  • Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Intellectual Disabilities
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Developmental Delays
  • Developmental or behavioral assessment of children with genetic conditions (e.g. Down syndrome, Williams syndrome, Prader-Willi, etc.) or other medical conditions
  • Management of common behavioral conditions (sleep, toileting, etc.)

After a medical and developmental assessment, the developmental-behavioral pediatrician will make recommendations for services, aid in the creation of behavior or education plans, or manage medications if necessary. Follow-up services are offered as well for continuing management and/or developmental surveillance. Please note that we do not provide neuropsychological testing or detailed academic evaluations. The clinic does not replace care (regular check-ups) that a child receives from his or her pediatrician or health center.

More than one visit may be required to complete the assessment. If you have any questions regarding eligibility or to schedule an appointment, please contact our office at 205-638-2294.
