Antimicrobial Specific Guidelines

Spectrum of Antimicrobial Treatment (PDF)

As an institution Children’s of Alabama and the Department of Pediatrics has a goal of establishing “criteria for use” for all antimicrobials available to patients. Indication specific orders sets allow for the most appropriate dose to be selected with (WHEN?) the indication or criteria for use is chosen. The order sets guide prescribers on the appropriate use of antibiotics and assure they are prescribed at the right dose.

Syndrome Specific and Therapeutic Guidelines

Syndrome specific and therapeutic guidelines offer evidence based recommendations for the diagnosis and management of common infectious syndromes encountered in pediatric patients. These pathways promote consistent, high quality care by aligning antimicrobial selection, duration, and supportive management with best available evidence and local epidemiology, while supporting timely de escalation and antimicrobial stewardship principles.
