PALS Provider Initial and Renewal Course Description

The American Heart Association (AHA) PALS Provider Initial Certification and Renewal Classes are taught using the American Heart Association (AHA) HeartCode PALS two-part program (Online Portion and Hands On ) or by completion of HeartCode PALS Complete.

HeartCode PALS Class consists of Online Portion & Hands-on Session

  • Online Portion is an internet based, self-paced program that utilizes interactive, realistic patient cases to teach healthcare providers   knowledge and skills needed to recognize and prevent cardiopulmonary arrests in infants and children. These cases allow participants to build their critical thinking skills by progressing through infant and child patient scenarios. The virtual patients react to treatment provided by the participants, right or wrong, allowing users to learn from errors. After completing the patient scenarios, participants receive detailed debriefings of their actions with suggestions for improvement. Upon completion of a test and evaluation a Course Completion Certificate is generated. The Online Portion takes approximately 10-12 hours.
  • Completion Certificate of the online portion must be turned in at Hands on Skills Testing check-in,
  • Hands-on Session– incorporates a hands-on skills practice then testing session with classroom scenarios by the an AHA Instructor. Upon completion of scenarios debriefing and skills test, learners are issued an AHA PALS Provider card.
