Day of surgery: Children's 5th Avenue parking deck (1601 5th Ave South, Birmingham, AL 35233), unless otherwise specified.
Bring your parking ticket into the hospital for validation or payment.
Where do I go once I have parked?
Take the crosswalk on level 2 of the 7th Avenue parking deck to walk into Children's of Alabama (McWane building). Keep to your left (To the right, you will see the lobby on the 1st floor). At the first set of elevators on your left, go down to the ground floor (G). Our clinic is clinic 14 and will be on your left.
What do I need to bring to the clinic visit?
A valid insurance card and government issued identification
Your parking ticket
Medical records from another facility if applicable
Diapers, milk, change of clothes for your child and snacks and drinks for you as clinic wait times can be long
Who will I see during the clinic visit?
We are a multidisciplinary team, but that doesn't mean you will see each member every visit. If you have not seen someone you'd like to see, please let someone know.
Typical Initial visit: audiology, speech language pathology, orthodontics, genetics, pediatrician, plastic surgeon. (OMFS, ENT, dietician, social work, lactation as needed)
How many babies are born with cleft?
Between 6,000 and 8,000 children are born yearly in the United States with a cleft lip and/or palate. In the United States, about 1 in 1,050 babies is born with cleft lip with or without cleft palate, and about 1 in 1,600 babies is born with cleft palate alone. Do you see patients prenatally?
Yes, as a courtesy visit to the family free of charge. These visits are scheduled at 8AM on Thursday mornings for educational purposes. Please call our office at 205-638-9369 for more information or to schedule.
