Colorectal Surgery Clinic

The Colorectal Surgery Clinic at Children's of Alabama provides specialized care for children with complex colorectal conditions that require advanced surgical management. As the only pediatric colorectal surgical clinic in Alabama and one of a limited number of specialized programs in the country, our multidisciplinary team offers expertise that is not widely available.

We care for patients with anorectal malformations who experience ongoing constipation or bowel management challenges, as well as children with idiopathic constipation who may benefit from surgical interventions such as an appendicostomy or cecostomy to administer antegrade enemas and improve bowel function and quality of life.

Our program currently follows more than 250 active patients, including approximately 155 children with idiopathic constipation and 100 children with anorectal malformations. We also maintain follow up for additional patients whose care plans are evolving, including families considering surgical intervention or those have transitioned to adult care.

At Children's of Alabama, our colorectal surgery team is committed to providing compassionate, individualized care and long-term bowel management solutions to help children achieve the best possible outcomes.
