Outpatient Clinics (Specialty Care Services)

All Children's clinics are occurring using a combination of in person visits and telehealth. For visits occurring in person the following practices have been implemented:

  • A pre-appointment phone screening and an on-site screening (with temperature check) so any patient with symptoms can be managed separately from routine flow
  • Social distancing cues on the floor at registration to prevent crowding
  • Workflows have been adjusted to facilitate rooming the patient as efficiently and safely as possible
  • Staff, parent/caregivers and patients (over the age of 2) are expected to wear masks and practice social distancing while in our facilities

Surgical Services

Children's of Alabama's Surgical Services has reopened at all three locations (Benjamin Russell, Lowder and Children's South) and is now accepting all surgery requests.

Pediatric Practice Solutions (Primary Care Practices)

Children's owned primary care practices have remained open and have employed new processes and practices in continuing to provide care for patients. Patient care is being provided by a combination of in-person care and telehealth. Most of the waiting rooms have been closed with check-in and triage being performed in advance of the visit or in the parking lot at the patient/family vehicle upon arrival. Well visits and immunizations are still occurring and taking place in the mornings and in rooms designated for well visits. Sick patients are being seen in the afternoons and in rooms not being used for well care. All rooms are being sanitized appropriately between each visit to keep everyone safe. Click here for information on each practice.

Imaging

On April 27th, Children’s began allowing emergent/urgent, non-elective Imaging exams to be scheduled at its Main (downtown) Campus and Children's South Pediatric Outpatient Center (PIC) on Acton Road.  Please call 205-638-2378 to schedule appointments.

As neither location is accepting “walk-in“ X-ray patients at this time, prior notification is required. Please call the location desired and be prepared to provide the patient's name, date of birth, ordering physician's name, the exam, and the reason for the exam being requested. Referral forms for both locations can be found here: www.childrensal.org/patient-referral

Children's Main Campus call 205-638-6217

PIC at Children's South call 205-638-4882

Clinic and Surgery Update

April 20, 2020

Children’s continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation, including all public health recommendations, while being mindful of the need to slowly bring our services back on line. Through the end of April, we plan to work with our physicians to address the surgery cases and clinic visits that were postponed from March and early April. We ask that you continue to work with us during this period as you have been. Until at least May 1, please limit new outpatient referrals to only those that are truly urgent and emergent procedures. If you have a patient that you are concerned about, please do not hesitate to contact the pediatric subspecialist to discuss. We will continue to provide regular updates. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
