Getting Here

Please plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment.  The traffic and parking in the Birmingham Medical District can sometimes be difficult and take longer than expected.  Please consider this as you prepare to leave for your visit.  Parking is available in the Children’s Hospital 7th Avenue Parking Garage – be sure to bring your parking ticket to clinic with you to be validated.

Check-in
When you arrive to Clinic 6 in the McWane Building of Children’s of Alabama, you will first need to check in at the front desk.  If your child is on oxygen, you may connect his/her oxygen to the oxygen supply on the wall of the waiting room and save oxygen in your portable tanks.  One of our staff will then gather your personal information and collect any necessary information or co-payment for your visit.  You will be directed to the laboratory or radiology suites for additional testing if required for your visit.

Your Child’s Exam
When you are called into clinic, the clinical assistant will take your child’s weight, height, head circumference, blood pressure and heart rate.  You will then be taken to an exam room and meet the remainder of our team members including the respiratory therapist, social worker, nutritionist and nurse.  Then the nurse practitioner and doctor will see your child.  Together the doctor and nurse practitioner will review your child’s medical history, physical exam and any other information to develop the plan of care for your child.

Follow-up
After the team has evaluated your child, you may need to stop at the front desk to schedule a follow-up appointment.  Please ask any of our team or staff for assistance at any time during your visit as needed.
