About Me

Assistant Professor

Dr. John Bridges is an assistant professor in the Children’s of Alabama Department of Pediatrics’ division of Pediatric Rheumatology and the division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a combined adult/pediatric rheumatologist and received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and a Master of Science in Sociology from Delta State University. He completed his combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency at University Hospital/Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. He completed his combined adult and pediatric rheumatology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham/Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Adult Rheumatology, and is board-eligible for Pediatric Rheumatology. His professional memberships include the American College of Rheumatology, the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Alabama Society for Rheumatic Disease. His research interests include improving outcomes related to pediatric rheumatology care as patients transition into adulthood. He is the founder and director of the Bridge to Adult Care from Childhood for Young Adults with Rheumatic Disease (BACC YARD) Program, a pediatric to adult rheumatology transition program.

Special Interests

Transitions to adulthood for young adults with childhood-onset rheumatic disease. His research interests include improving outcomes related to pediatric rheumatology care as patients transition into adulthood. He is the founder and director of the Bridge to Adult Care from Childhood for Young Adults with Rheumatic Disease (BACC YARD) Program, a pediatric to adult rheumatology transition program.
