Montgomery, Ala. (June 30, 2025) — Tom Shufflebarger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Children’s of Alabama, has been named Secretary-Treasurer of the Alabama Hospital Association (AlaHA) Board of Trustees and President of the Association’s Birmingham Regional Council. The election took place during the Association’s recent Annual Meeting.

“Tom brings a strong track record of service, leadership, and a deep commitment to Alabama’s children and families,” said Donald E. Williamson, MD, President of the Alabama Hospital Association. “His knowledge and steady leadership will be a tremendous asset to the Board as we continue to advocate for hospitals and the patients they serve across our state.

Shufflebarger has served Children’s of Alabama—the state’s only freestanding pediatric hospital—since 1992 and was named CEO in 2021. In this role, he oversees all aspects of hospital operations and care delivery. He previously held leadership roles at Brookwood Medical Center, including budget director and director of physician recruitment and development.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and currently serves as a Trustee of the Alabama Chapter of the American Hospital Association. Throughout his career, Shufflebarger has remained actively involved in both healthcare and civic organizations. His volunteer leadership includes service with the American Red Cross, United Way of Central Alabama, Magic Moments, the Lakeshore Foundation, Canterbury United Methodist Church, and Hoover City Schools.

An honors graduate of Duke University, Shufflebarger holds both a Bachelor of Arts in economics and a Master of Business Administration.
