Dr. McMahon is Medical Director, Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories, Children's of Alabama; Professor of Pediatrics, University of Alabama at Birmingham.
He specializes in catheter treatments for infants, children and adults with congenital heart disease. Under his direct leadership, catheter based treatments have become available for many patients who previously required open surgical treatment. Patients now benefit from less invasive treatment techniques, which are associated with lower complication rates, shorter hospital stays, less discomfort, and reduced overall cost of treatment. These advantages all promote better outcomes for patients.
Dr. McMahon has been an investigator in national, multi-center clinical trials that have investigated the safety and effectiveness of catheter based treatment, and led to the approval of devices for PDA closure and ASD closure.
