Cindy Rogers, CPA, CHC
Corporate Compliance Officer
Cindy joined Children's of Alabama in November 2008 as an Internal Auditor and was appointed to the position of Corporate Compliance Officer in October 2012. Initially, Cindy gained her healthcare experience from working with various healthcare clients during her employment with Ernst and Whinney. Since then, she has worked with several healthcare entities in the Birmingham area in internal audit and financial analyst positions. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Auburn University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Salena Whalen-Stalker, MSHRM
Salena began her career at Children's in January 2011. Formerly, she served as the Medical Personnel Coordinator in a long-term care facility and has worked as an adjunct instructor, facilitated undergraduate courses in HRM, and delivered training for public and private organizations. She earned her undergraduate in Business Administration from UAB, her Master's in Human Resource Management from Troy University, and has completed graduate courses in Health Services Administration at both universities.
Matthew Payne, RN, BSN
Matt began his career at Children's in May 2012 as a CA on Dearth Tower. After graduating nursing school, he transferred to the CVICU and was a bedside nurse there until he transferred to Nursing Support Services in 2016. He spent three years in NSS as a bedside nurse in the float pool and also as a resource in One Stop Placement. Matt had a brief stint in Utilization Management before joining Corporate Compliance in August 2019. He received his BSN from Jacksonville State University.
Peggy Weiland, RN, CPC
Compliance Audit Supervisor
Peggy began her career at Children's in June 2002 in Poison Control where she became a Certified Specialist in Poison Information. In 2007, she transferred to Corporate Compliance as a Nurse Auditor. She continued her nursing career as Medical Review Manager in Medical Review from 2009 to 2012, returning to Corporate Compliance in 2012. Peggy has worked at several healthcare entities in pediatric, OB, surgery and clinical auditor positions. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Grand Valley State University in Michigan and is a Certified Professional Coder.
Robert Royston, JD;
Robert received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University and his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. He has worked with several healthcare entities in Alabama, as well as one in West Virginia. Robert began his career at Children's in 2011 in the Risk Management department and began giving dedicated time to the Compliance function in January 2017.
