BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Clara Ortiz, M.D. and Alana Thornton, M.D. have joined the medical staff at Children’s of Alabama.

Clara Ortiz, M.D., has joined the UAB Department of Radiology as a distinguished professor in pediatric imaging and radiologist at Children’s of Alabama. She completed her residency at Valle University Hospital, Cali, Valle, Colombia, South America and fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston; The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston. Dr. Ortiz is a member of the American Society of Pediatric Radiology, Alberta Society of Radiologists, Canadian Association of Radiologists and an associate member of the American College of Radiology. Her interests include abdominal imaging, cardiac imaging, general pediatric radiology and medical education.

Alana Thornton, M.D., has joined the UAB Department of Radiology as a clinical assistant professor in pediatric imaging and radiologist at Children’s of Alabama. She completed her residency and fellowship in pediatric imaging at the UAB School of Medicine. Dr. Thornton is a member of the Radiologic Society of North America (RSNA), American College of Radiology (ACR), American Association of Women Radiologists and Alabama Academy of Radiology.

It is a private, not-for-profit medical center that serves as the teaching hospital for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) pediatric medicine, surgery, psychiatry, research and residency programs. The medical staff consists of UAB faculty and Children’s of Alabama’s full-time physicians as well as private practicing community physicians.
