Children’s of Alabama Sports Medicine will host its fifth annual Concussion Summit on Tuesday, June 19, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the UAB Hill Student Center (1400 University Blvd., Birmingham, 35294).

Co-hosted by UAB and Children’s of Alabama, the day-long conference is open to the public and will include presentations of interest to healthcare providers, school system leadership and staff, professional and recreational coaches, athletic trainers and parents.

Registration is $25 and includes breakfast and lunch. Online registration is available at www.childrensal.org/concussion. Continuing education opportunities will be available.

This year’s keynote speaker is Christina L. Master, MD, CAQSM, professor of clinical pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Her session is titled, “Minds Matter: Seeing Concussion Through New Eyes.”

Additional topics to be addressed include concussion detection and care; impact of concussions on the family from diagnosis to recovery; Alabama law on concussion and head injury in youth sports and how to implement a return-to-learn protocol.
