BIRMINGHAM – Children’s of Alabama and Shipt have partnered to help families meet their child’s nutritional needs and dietary restrictions.

Shipt, a membership-based grocery marketplace, provides delivery of fresh foods and household essentials. Shipt has donated the memberships to the Children’s of Alabama nutritional department to distribute to families of ill and injured patients to assist with grocery delivery during their child’s hospitalization.

“Our patient families have been so appreciative of this donation, especially those families who do not get to leave the hospital for months at a time,” said Perrin Tamblyn, clinical nutritionist, Children’s of Alabama. “They also have severely immune compromised patients, so they are happy to not have to go to the grocery as well once they return home.”

Shipt was also a sponsor of Children’s nutrition-focused event last month, The Children’s Table. The membership donation and event sponsorship totals more than $34,000 for the state’s only freestanding pediatric hospital.

Since 1911, Children’s of Alabama has provided specialized medical care for ill and injured children, offering inpatient and outpatient services throughout central Alabama. Ranked among the best pediatric medical centers in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Children’s provided care for youngsters from every county in Alabama, 45 other states and six foreign countries last year, representing more than 677,000 outpatient visits and more than 15,000 inpatient admissions. With more than 2 million square feet, Children’s is the third largest pediatric medical facility in the U.S. More information is available at childrensal.org.
