Racing for Children's Dinner Benefiting Children with Cancer on April 20 Kicks Off Indy Grand Prix Racing Weekend

BIRMINGHAM – Tickets are now available for the 8th Annual Racing for Children’s Charity Dinner and Auction presented by Medical Properties Trust set for Friday, April 20. The event kicks off Honda Indy Grand Prix weekend festivities while benefiting young cancer patients at Children’s of Alabama. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum (6030 Barber Motorsports Parkway).

Each year, Racing for Children’s honors two Children’s of Alabama patients who serve as honorary crew chiefs for the Racing for Children’s race car and lead the team in the race to cure cancer. Honorary crew chiefs for this year’s event are Ben Johnson, age 11 of Auburn, and Mollie Wilder, age 14 of Wilsonville.

Dinner guests will also have the opportunity to tour the museum’s renowned collection of more than 1,200 vintage and modern motorcycles and race cars before dinner is served.

The Racing for Children’s race car presented by Medical Properties Trust will be running in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge on Saturday, April 21 at 11:50 a.m. and on Sunday, April 22 at 8:45 a.m. This custom car will be covered by handprints of patients from Children’s of Alabama and will be on display to the public at the hospital on Tuesday, April 17 at 10 a.m.

Racing for Children’s raises funds and awareness for the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s, which treats more than 90 percent of Alabama children diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders.
