Beads-of-Courage

Hope and Cope is partnering with Beads-of-Courage (BOC) a resilience-based intervention designed to support and strengthen the protective resources in children coping with chronic/life threatening illness. The program enables children to tell their story using colorful beads as meaningful symbols of courage that commemorate milestones they have achieved along their unique treatment path.

Every Moment Matters

Over the past several years a close partnership has developed between the Junior League of Birmingham, UAB Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Children's hospital Outpatient Clinic, and the Hope and Cope. Every Moment Matters expands the historic role of volunteers by utilizing their expertise in providing age appropriate structured play, educational, and recreational activities for children either waiting for, or receiving care in the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology outpatient Clinic. Many outpatients remain within the clinic setting for several hours, receiving chemotherapy treatment or blood product transfusions. In the absence of such structured activities provided by Junior League volunteers, this time is tedious and often frightening to the children.
