Corporate Compliance & Internal Audit

As a non-profit, pediatric hospital that offers excellence in healthcare to all of our patients, regardless of their ability to pay, there are many laws that govern us. Some of these laws and agencies include:

  • Department of Health & Human Services (HHS)
    • Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
    • Office of Inspector General (OIG)
  • False Claims Act
  • State Medicaid Program
  • Anti-Kickback and Stark Laws
  • Internal Revenue Service

The purpose of the Corporate Compliance Program is to create and maintain an environment that encourages and assists the Children's of Alabama (Children's) Community in complying with governing laws, regulations, accreditation standards, ethical guidelines, policies, procedures, and the Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct is our compliance guidebook.

Children's is committed to knowing and following the rules. The Corporate Compliance Officer and staff work to prevent, detect, and correct compliance violations by conducting audits, responding to reported possible compliance violations, conducting monthly exclusion verifications and monitoring possible conflicts of interest.

Communication is critical to our success. It is the duty of every employee to report suspected violations. Employees are encouraged to discuss the issue with their supervisor or the Corporate Compliance Department. Employees may contact the Corporate Compliance staff directly to discuss questions and concerns and to report compliance violations. Anonymous reports may be submitted by calling the Compliance Hotline or reporting on The Red Wagon Home Page.

We encourage you to explore the Compliance links in the left margin, the Code of Conduct, Children’s Administrative/Universal and departmental policies and procedures in Lucidoc.

If you have any Compliance questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
