College Volunteers

Volunteer at Children's of AlabamaYou are considered a college student if you are taking one course for fun or working towards a degree, regardless of your age.  You must also be a high school graduate or have a GED.

What an exciting opportunity we have to offer our college volunteers! Our program is one that is sure to give you a deep, personal satisfaction by helping others.

We know there may be many demands on your time, but we certainly hope you will consider us when you are choosing a place to volunteer. Please know your smile, kind words, or helpful action can make all the difference to someone who is having a challenging day while in the hospital.

College Students Summer Only Volunteer

If you  want to volunteer at Children’s for the summer only, here are some things you need to know:

  • Apply during the month of April. We only accept applications for the summer during this month.
  • Be sure to list your available time on the application as 6/1/19 to 8/1/19, so that we know you are applying for the summer only program, not our ongoing volunteer program throughout the year.
  • Submit your required immunization documents immediately after applying in April (see steps to volunteer on the website).
  • You must complete the online orientation during April (it will be assigned once you complete the steps above).
  • Volunteer interviews will be held on May 20, 2019. This is the only interview time for summer only volunteers.  You will automatically receive an invitation once we receive notification you completed the online orientation.
  • Start dates for summer volunteers will be the week of June 10, 2019
  • In order to complete our 48 hour minimum requirement each volunteer will volunteer for 6 hours each week from the June start week through the end of July, or eight consecutive weeks. This may be 6 hours on one day or 3 hours on two days depending on the availability of assignments.
  • If you are a returning summer only student, you must also include proof of a flu shot this past year.

Reminder, our ongoing program that is 48 hours over 16 weeks does intake every month of the year except December.
