Anesthesia Pre-Admit Screening Service (APASS) is a hospital based clinic at Children’s of Alabama. APASS provides pre-anesthesia evaluations & consultations designed to help identify and avoid surgery and anesthesia related complications. Our comprehensive consultation system decreases the possibility of procedural delays and cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances. APASS also helps alleviate many parental fears and anxiety related to upcoming procedures through surgical and anesthesia process education. For more information, contact APASS or visit the Plan Your Visit link.
If your child is scheduled for an anesthesia procedure, please complete an Online Patient Questionnaire at least 2-3 business days prior to the procedure. APASS questionnaires expedite the APASS process by collecting very valuable medical history used by our Anesthesia team to develop the safest, most effective anesthesia plan of care for your child’s procedure.
OTHER WAYS TO OBTAIN AN APASS EVALUATION
Questionnaires are usually sufficient to clear your child for anesthesia. Please provide all contact phone numbers including area codes on the questionnaire. An APASS nurse may attempt to contact you if more information is needed. In an attempt to reduce day of procedure delays and cancellations, our Division highly recommends scheduling an APASS appointment if your child requires pre-operative lab work or diagnostic testing. Please check with your child’s surgeon. If pre-operative lab work or diagnostic testing is needed, contact APASS to schedule an appointment.
