FAIRHOPE (February 08, 2011)- The inaugural Mystery Dinner Theatre hosted by The Guardians of Children's Hospital will take place at the Fairhope Yacht Club (101 Volanta Avenue Fairhope) on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $50 per person and the event is open to the public. To order tickets, contact Kerrie Benson at 251-610-4969, or order online at http://chsys.kintera.org/mystery.
The evening will begin with dinner at 7 p.m. and a cash bar. After dinner a special performance will be given by the theatrical group The La Luna Players. The Players will perform a comedic murder mystery.
"We're excited about this event and really looking forward to hosting," Benson said. "We think this will be something truly unique for Bay area residents to enjoy, and of course a great way to support area children in the process."
The Guardians are in honor of a special boat named "Guardian" that protects the other boats during regattas at the Fairhope Yacht Club, Benson said. The name "Guardian" seemed fitting for this group of about eight people, formed out of the Club, wanting to guard and protect the children of Alabama. All members of The Guardians have in some way been touched by Children's Hospital, and the formation of this group is their way of raising awareness and giving back.
This event is inspired by a walking talking miracle of Children's Hospital, Katie Hamlin of Daphne. Katie became sick just after her sophomore year at Daphnae High School and spent eight months in Children's suffering from a collapsed lung, multiple strokes and remained in a coma for most of her stay. Today, she is back in Baldwin County playing soccer, attending art classes and living every day to the fullest. Katie will be attending the Dinner Theatre as the guest of honor.
In 2009, Children's Hospital saw patients from every county in Alabama, including 1,500 from Mobile and Baldwin counties alone. The goal of this event is to raise money and awareness for Children's so they can conduct the research necessary to continue producing miracles like Katie.
