North Alabama Children's Specialists: COVID-19 Letter to Patients and Families - Archived
Date
04/06/2020
Description

The doctors, nurses, and staff at North Alabama Children’s Specialists want to assure you that your health and safety are our primary concern during this Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

As a pediatric subspecialty practice, all of our patients may be considered high risk for complications of COVID-19; however, good control of a chronic disease is as critical for health as social distancing.  Thus, we have enacted the following policies for the short term:

  1. All staff members are screened for fever upon arrival in order to provide a safe environment for our patients.
  2. All patients and family members will be screened for fever upon arrival. If anyone in the family has a fever, or symptoms of lower respiratory infection, the family will be re-directed. We ask that only one parent or guardian accompany the patient (no siblings are allowed at this time).
  3. We will not schedule sick patients with a temperature greater than 100.4, but will re-direct families to their primary care provider.
  4. We have removed the toys from the waiting area to avoid contamination and create space for social distancing. After checking in, families may wait in the car and will be notified by cell phone when the child is to be triaged.
  5. We are thoroughly cleaning the examining tables and furniture in each examining room with a 10 minute drying period via timer between each patient
  6. Our office is able to provide telehealth encounters (phone, AW Touchpoint app, or Zoom Healthcare). We may offer this on a case by case basis for our stable, well controlled patients. Please note that your insurance determines coverage for these visits and co-pays may apply.
  7. If someone in your household wakes up ill within 48 hours of the appointment day, please call and we will gladly reschedule.
  8. If at all possible, please use our patient portal for any questions or concerns regarding your child’s health.

Working together we can succeed in providing your child with outstanding care in a safe manner.
