We enjoyed having Dr. Sandip Chatterjee as our pediatric neurosurgery visiting professor April 22-25, 2019. During his stay here, he was able to speak to the adult neurosurgery group, presented at the Children’s of Alabama Thursday grand rounds, as well as, give a “Tiger talk” to our group. He is Professor and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Chatterjee started his medical career with an M.B.B.S. from the Calcutta University, in 1984. This was followed by his F.R.C.S. from Edinburgh, UK in 1989. He, then went on to do his DNB in Surgery, in 1989, which was followed by F.R.C.S. (Neurosurgery), He, then passed the FRS Examination of Joint Intercollegiate Board in Neurosurgery in 1994, and later by Dip. National Board in Neurosurgery.
Dr. Chatterjee is involved in a number of academic activities, such as: Professor of Neurosurgery, and member of several editorial boards. He also coordinates all Faculty appointments for the International Society of Paediatric Neurosurgery Courses around the world and as such has played a direct role in the training and education of more providers of Pediatric Neurosurgery services than virtually any other neurosurgeon.
