Planned Lane Children's Encourages Vistitors to Be Aware of Closures on I-65 Northbound and I-59/20 Southbound - Archived

BIRMINGHAM - The continuation of construction projects to improve the I-59/20 and I-65 Interchange will lead to temporary lane closures that could impact traffic routes for Children’s of Alabama staff, patients and visitors.

On Wednesday, March 14, and potentially on Saturday and Sunday, the Alabama Department of Transportation will close all lanes of I-65 Northbound just south of the Interchange and the I-65 Northbound Ramp to I-59/20 Southbound from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m in order to set beams across the roadway.

Detour routes will be in place on I-459 and on Tallapoosa Street.

A reduced speed limit of 45 mph will be in effect throughout the work zone. Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes as well as adjust arrival/departure times and pay close attention to posted construction zone signs. Law enforcement officials will be present.

Children’s  advises those visiting or leaving the hospital and clinics to adjust their travel plans accordingly.

ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction operation to improve Alabama’s interstate system.
