For the entire month of April, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers will donate $1 for every service at any of the 83 Alabama locations. The donation will provide funding for art therapy as part of the Hope and Cope Psychosocial and Education Program for patients in the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's of Alabama.
“We are really proud of our now 10-year partnership with Children’s of Alabama and to have the opportunity to affect these children’s lives in such a unique way. Art therapy provides these kids with a much needed distraction from the stresses that treatments can take on the body both physically and emotionally,” said Ricky Brooks, CEO of Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers.”
This is the first year all locations in the state of Alabama will participate. In years past, it has only been Birmingham stores, but because of the inclusion of Valvoline, all Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers locations across Alabama will participate.
“Expressive activities play a critical role in promoting emotional well-being and improving quality of life for children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer or a serious blood disorder and their families. In recognition of this important fact, Express Oil Change partnered with the Hope and Cope Psychosocial and Education Program to develop and grow our Healing Expressions activities, which include art, music, and drama/narrative activities for the more than 500 children receiving treatment at the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's of Alabama. These activities are highly valued by families, and truly would not have been possible without Express Oil, who has been who has been a committed and faithful partner over the past several years,” said Dr. Avi Madan-Swain, Professor of Pediatrics and Director, Hope and Cope Psychosocial Program, UAB Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
Each year, Express Oil Change & Tires Engineers is presented with an artwork designed by the patients who benefit from the program. Since 2008, more than $350,000 has been raised for this initiative, with $43,399 raised in 2016. The goal is to surpass that amount in 2017.
On April 1, 12 locations will have a kick-off event to celebrate the beginning of the initiative. There will be special snacks and giveaways for customers at each location.
