Wells Fargo Extends "Picks for Kids" Program; Tide and Tiger Interceptions to Raise Support and Awarness for Children's

BIRMINGHAM – To help more children like two-year-old Jordan Kilgore, Wells Fargo is bringing “Picks for Kids” back to the gridiron this fall, to add to the $77,000 already raised for the care of ill and injured youngsters at Children’s of Alabama.

And this fall, to make it a statewide program, Wells Fargo has recruited Auburn to be part of the action.

For every interception made by either UA and AU, Wells Fargo will donate $1,000 to help children treated at the state’s only freestanding pediatric hospital. Cheerleaders and mascot Big Al from Alabama, which has been part of the program for three years, visited the hospital today to celebrate the new effort.

“Our caregivers would not be able to make the impact they do without partners like Wells Fargo, Auburn and Alabama,” said Mike Warren, President and CEO of Children’s of Alabama. “We truly appreciate their support in helping us continue improving the lives of Alabama’s children and we are happy to recognize their efforts.”

The Wells Fargo “Picks for Kids” campaign originated with UA before the 2011-12 season to provide comprehensive evaluation and therapy services for children requiring inpatient and outpatient treatment at Children’s Charity League Hearing and Speech Center. Children’s team of audiologists and speech-language pathologists are trained to assess and treat all areas of speech, language and hearing.

Money donated by Wells Fargo was used to purchase updated hearing technology for Children’s hearing aid loaner bank. Loaner hearing aids are important for children like Jordan Kilgore of Mountain Brook so they can immediately receive a hearing aid. Hearing impaired children cannot develop speech sounds that they cannot hear so the sooner a child is fitted with a hearing aid, the better their speech and language development.

Jordan is among those already helped. Jordan is hearing impaired and was able to benefit from Children’s hearing aid loaner program while her family researched insurance coverage and her audiologist determined which hearing aid would be most beneficial to her future development.
