BIRMINGHAM (Dec. 16, 2013) Brown Mackie College — Birmingham, in conjunction with Buffalo Rock Pepsi, Fox 6, 106.9 The Eagle, Napa Auto Parts, Raceway, Charter Media and AL.com is sponsoring on the second annual Krispy Kreme Doughnut Dash to benefit Children’s of Alabama on Jan. 25, 2014.
This one-of-a-kind event is a four mile run where runners eat a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts at the halfway mark. For those whose running routine doesn’t include doughnut eating, entrants can choose to register as a casual runner and bring the doughnuts home for the entire family to enjoy. The Start/Finish will be at Railroad Park and the doughnut eating area will be near Children’s Russell Building on 5th Avenue South.
New this year—a mile fun run. Participants will run a mile loop inside Railroad Park and receive a single doughnut at the halfway point.
Awards will be given out for top finishers in multiple age groups, as well as for the top three runners who eat their dozen doughnuts in the fastest time. All runners who register as a Challenger and complete the entire challenge—run four miles, eat 12 doughnuts and finish in one hour or less based on electronically measured chip time—will receive a special Napa Auto Parts finisher’s medal.
The public is encouraged to cheer on the runners and enjoy the Family Zone from 9 a.m. to noon at Railroad Park. Admission is free, and there will be a bounce house, basketball toss, face painting, DJ, GameStop hospitality tent, health and wellness tents and booths featuring the Birmingham Police Department, Birmingham Fire and Rescue and CommuteSmart.
