Music and Miracles Radiothon Set for Oct. 25 and 26; Will be Broadcast Live from Children's

BIRMINGHAM (Oct. 21, 2013) – The annual Music and Miracles Radiothon will be broadcast from the main lobby of the Children's of Alabama McWane Building (1600 7th Ave. S., Birmingham 35233) for the fourth consecutive year. WMJJ Magic 96.5 will air the Radiothon live Friday, Oct. 25, 6 a.m. till 6 p.m. The Q 103.7 will broadcast the event live on Saturday, Oct. 26, 8 a.m. till 5 p.m.

"Hosting the Radiothon in the hospital gives the patients and families the opportunity to be involved and share their story of personal courage on the live broadcast," said Cayleigh Cummings, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Coordinator. "Every dollar raised through the Music and Miracles Radiothon on Magic 96.5 and 103.7 The Q helps provide Children's with the resources to provide the best healthcare to all children in Alabama."

Naomi Pitts of Hoover is just one of the brave youngsters participating in the Radiothon. The 13-year-old was diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer and received treatment at Children's. Today, Naomi is an honor student at Spain Park High School and a member of the debate team.

Listeners will also learn more about the work that goes on inside the walls of Children's new Benjamin Russell expansion through interviews with some of the doctors, nurses and other health care providers who work there. As a special bonus, Miss Alabama Chandler Champion will be at Children's Friday from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. to help answer telephones as listeners call in their pledges for much-needed funds to provide care for the youngsters treated at the not-for-profit hospital. Last year's Radiothon raised more than $95,000.

On-air personalities will use the hashtag "#musicandmiracles" to live-tweet from the Radiothon. Listeners are encouraged to also use the hashtag in tweeting about their response to the stories they hear and the pledges they make.
