BIRMINGHAM – The Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Alabama will host the Fourth Annual Advancement in the Care of Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Symposium Thursday, Oct. 24, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Children’s (1600 5th Ave. S., Birmingham 35233.)

The fee for the daylong event is $35 and includes lunch. Those interested in attending should call 205-638-5443 or email Denise Bristow at dbristow@peds.uab.edu.

The educational symposium is aimed at physicians, nurses and other health care providers. It will bring together experts from across the U.S. to discuss the latest treatments and practices related to childhood cancer and sickle cell disease. Topics include: Disparities in Outcome for Patients with Childhood Leukemia: Alabama and Nationally; Language Barriers, Cultural Awareness/Sensitivity and Healthcare; Meeting the Needs of Pediatric Oncology
Nurses in Developing Countries; Adherence to Oral Chemotherapy in Children with Leukemia; Inherited Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes and Novel Stem Cell Therapies; Understanding Barriers in Sickle Cell Care from the Patient Perspective; and Stem Cell Transplantation for Sickle Cell Disease: Current and Future Practices.
