BIRMINGHAM (July 15, 2013) – Blizzards are in the Alabama forecast on Miracle Treat Day (Thursday, Aug. 8) when sales of Dairy Queen's popular Blizzard® ice cream treat will benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, a nonprofit organization that raises money for children's hospitals.
Thirty-three Dairy Queen locations across the state will donate $1 or more from every Blizzard sold on Miracle Treat Day to Children's of Alabama. A complete list of participating locations can be found at www.miracletreatday.com.
Since 1984, Dairy Queen has raised more than $90 million for the 170 CMNH member hospitals, including $5 million just last year. In 2012, DQ donated more than $40,000 to Children's of Alabama. These donations help support research and training, purchase equipment and pay for uncompensated care.
Children's of Alabama has provided specialized medical care for ill and injured children since 1911, offering inpatient and outpatient services throughout central Alabama. Last year, families made more than 670,000 outpatient and nearly 14,000 inpatient visits to Children's from every county in Alabama and from 41 other states and four foreign countries. With more than 2 million square feet, Children's is the third largest pediatric medical facility in the U.S. and has been ranked among the top children's hospital programs in the country for the past four years by US News & World Report.
