FAIRHOPE (Mar. 30, 2012) — The Fairhope Yacht Club Guardians will host their annual Motorcycle Run on Saturday, April 14. All proceeds from the event will benefit ill and injured kids treated at Children’s of Alabama.
Registration begins at noon at Fairhope Yacht Club (101 Volanta Ave., Fairhope) with homemade red beans and rice. Riders will receive instructions then depart for their first stop. There are five stops along the route – each stop has something different to offer bikers.
The “Guardians” are the fundraising group of the Fairhope Yacht Club. Every member has been touched by Children’s of Alabama in some way – whether they had a child or grandchild there, or knows someone who did. Last year Children’s treated more than 1,350 children from Baldwin and Mobile counties.
The ride will conclude around 4:30 p.m. and the good times will continue with a live band, a barbecue dinner with sides, cash bar and prizes.
Children’s of Alabama has provided specialized medical care for ill and injured children across the state and throughout the southeastern U.S. since 1911. It is the only hospital in Alabama dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children. It is currently licensed for 275 beds. Ten of its divisions – pulmonology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology, neonatology, cancer, cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology and nephrology—were recently ranked among the best children’s hospital programs in the nation by US News & World Report. It is a private, not-for-profit hospital that serves as the primary site of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) pediatric medicine, surgery, research and residency programs. A 750,000-square-feet expansion is currently under construction and will open in June.
