Acute Kidney Injury in the term and premature infant, acute Kidney Injury in pediatric patient, prevention of AKI in hospitalized children with Cystic Fibrosis, epidemiology and outcomes of children who develop AKI after bone marrow transplant, methods to detect Residual Renal Function in Children with chronic kidney disease, prevention of fluid overload in children after cardiopulmonary bypass for congenital heart surgery

Dr. Askenazi joined the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at UAB as an Assistant Professor in 2005 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2016.  He was appointed the inaugural W. Charles Mayer Endowed chair of Pediatric Nephrology in 2021. Dr. Askenazi is the Medical Director of the Pediatric and Infant Center for Acute Nephrology (PICAN). The center research is focused on improving knowledge, testing interventions, and developing innovations that improve the outcomes of hospitalized neonates and children. He is also the founder and Board Chair for the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative (NKC), a collaborative that brings neonatologist and nephrologist together to improve the field of neonatal nephrology. He founded and is the current Chief Scientific Officer for Zorro-Flow Inc.
