Collaboration with Alabama Department of Public Health
ADPH oversees Alabama EMS, which collects trauma data statewide and directs care and education for all regional EMS offices.
Collaboration with Trauma Communication Center (TCC)
TCC is the central hub for EMS services statewide to receive the most up-to-date hospital ED status and refer patients to the most appropriate facility.
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) trained MDs
ATLS is sponsored by ACS and is recognized as the gold standard for trauma care delivered by physicians.
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) trained RN’s
TNCC is sponsored by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and is recognized as the premier course for hospitals and trauma centers worldwide, empowering nurses with the knowledge, critical thinking skills and hands-on training to provide expert care for trauma patients.
Trauma Prevention Program
Court-appointed, one-day interactive educational experience for teens after receiving first offense moving violation. The day consists of lectures on safe driving habits, behaviors and statistics, using a driving simulator, touring the trauma room, PICU, PT/OT, and then trauma survivor presentations. The Participating teens have traffic violations removed from their record in exchange for taking this class.
Teen Driving Safety Summits
Regional events held at schools and/or public spaces where local teens hear testimonies, experience driving simulators, learn what happens in the field with EMS and the hospital trauma room. They learn which legal actions could potentially be taken against them for poor decisions. These events are sponsored by various organizations including: State Farm, Children’s of Alabama, AL Safe Kids, MADD, ALDOT and Drive Safe Alabama.
Trauma Conferences host
Trauma Morbidity & Mortality Conference held quarterly at Children’s of Alabama.
Trauma Multidisciplinary Conference held quarterly at Children’s of Alabama.
Monthly Trauma Simulations hosted by UAB Clinical Simulation lab in the Children’s trauma room.
