Healthier Weigh is a 6-session, family based, group program being offered to adolescents ages 12 to 18 and their parents/caregivers. It is based on the most up to date research and clinically effective weight management programs available for children who are overweight. The comprehensive program includes:
- Individual assessment and consultation appointments with a registered dietitian, pediatric psychologist and fitness specialist
- 6 consecutive sessions of two separate groups (one for teens and one for their caregivers) that will include education in nutrition and fitness coupled with guidance in behavior change for long-term weight management, focusing on increasing healthy habits in both adolescents and their families. Topics will include causes of being overweight, barriers to change, problem-solving, portion control, reading food labels, self-monitoring, maintaining motivation, managing hunger, eating out, increasing physical activity at home, handling body image & self-esteem issues, and relapse prevention.
- Individual assessment and consultation with a registered dietician, pediatric psychologist, and fitness specialist to establish individual and family health goals post completion of the program.
*It is required that patients interested in Bariatric Surgery attend all 6 sessions of Healthier Weigh.
